Primary Prevention Tracking (PPT) System

Data Collection

Welcome to our Partners in Prevention Initiative that recognizes that DCBS cannot do the work of child welfare alone, nor can education, justice, health, or any single agency. Together we need to create strong communities and healthy families.

Definition:

Primary Prevention activities involve Community Partners and DCBS in meetings, trainings, events, discussion groups, or other initiatives to build community capacity to reduce the risks for child abuse and neglect and to strengthen families and communities. Child abuse prevention activities span a range of community actions from meetings to multi-media events. Primary Prevention includes direct services through structured parent training programs that strengthen families and enhance parenting skills. Primary prevention activities do not include direct one-on-one services to a family or a child; these are secondary prevention services such as Family Preservation.

Purpose of the PPT Data Entry Site:

Data entered here will be used to understand the range of primary prevention activities statewide. Kentucky is expanding prevention efforts through the Partners in Prevention Initiative. We have numerous programs statewide that seek to build community capacity; we want strong communities and healthy families. Currently, we know that a great deal of good work is being completed, but we want to identify the scope of work, counties that are served and underserved, the range of activities, and the perceived outcomes of the work. Some counties may be producing a great deal of wonderful work and we may follow-up with focus groups to identify the secrets to this success in the world today. Other counties may have little service and benefit from enhanced prevention efforts and funding; data entered here will help us know that.

We plan to produce reports that will be available to you through your regional contacts and contract managers. These reports will not identify any specific provider or agency, but rather explore the success and needs of prevention efforts statewide. Reports will also be used to documents your efforts and seek additional funding. We need evidence of needs and results to support budget requests for external funding; data from this site will support these efforts.
